Emergency Plumber AKL exists for the moment water is coming through a ceiling in Glenfield, sewage is rising in a gully trap in Māngere, or the hot water cylinder has let go in a Mt Eden villa. The site explains what to do first, in plain New Zealand terms, and puts you in touch with a licensed local plumbing business that can attend.
The work itself is carried out by tradespeople authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. Your agreement for the job, the quote and any workmanship guarantee is with that business, and nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
We cover the whole city, split into five regions, with a guide for each suburb describing the housing and the plumbing problems that are common there, from galvanised pipe in central villas to grey polybutylene in 1990s homes on the North Shore.

How To Check A Plumber's Licence
In New Zealand, plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying are restricted work under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006. Only people authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB) can do it. Authorised tradespeople carry a PGDB photo ID card, and anyone can search a name on the PGDB public register online.
Some gasfitting also needs a gas safety certificate or certificate of compliance when the job is finished. The gasfitter will tell you which applies and give it to you.

Find, Quote And Fix
The plumber finds the cause, quotes the repair before work starts, and fixes it or makes it safe until parts arrive.
Test And Report
The system is tested with the water back on, and you get photos and a written note of what was found and done.
