Emergency Plumber Mount Eden

Mount Eden was one of the hardest hit parts of the isthmus in the Auckland Anniversary Weekend floods of January 2023, when water poured through streets and some homes in low-lying pockets were badly damaged. Part of the suburb drains to the older combined network, so heavy rain can bring wastewater back up through gully traps as well as flooding from stormwater. Under the ground, Mount Eden is built on lava flows from Maungawhau, and basalt rock sits close to the surface in many streets. That makes drain repairs slower and sometimes more involved, because reaching a broken pipe can mean working through rock. The practical answer is to clear the line first, run a camera through it and dig only at the exact fault. The villas and bungalows here have mature gardens, and roots from oaks, pōhutukawa and other big trees are a common cause of blockages in old earthenware drains. Mount Eden Road and Dominion Road give quick access, and the Central Motorway Junction is close by.

Mount Eden spreads around the slopes of Maungawhau, the highest volcanic cone on the isthmus, with a leafy village centre on Mount Eden Road and busy Dominion Road on its western side. It is one of Auckland's most popular villa suburbs, with established gardens and mature trees. Eden Park, the national stadium, sits on its western edge. Basalt lies close to the surface across much of the suburb.
