Takapuna has more apartments than anywhere else on the North Shore, and apartments change what a plumbing emergency looks like. Takapuna is the North Shore's main town centre, sitting between the beach and Lake Pupuke, a volcanic crater lake. It has the Shore's biggest concentration of apartments, a dense strip of shops, cafés and restaurants along Hurstmere Road, and a mix of older homes on the streets behind. It is close to the Northern Motorway and the Harbour Bridge, so it is one of the quickest parts of the Shore to reach.
